Volunteers
Volunteers are a highly valued and greatly needed part of IAM’s operations. Volunteers may work as little as one three to four-hour shift a week, a full day or multiple shifts.
Most volunteer shifts are four hours in either the morning or afternoon, once a week.
We could not provide our extensive crisis services without our caring volunteers!
Volunteers assist in a number of vital roles at IAM including:
Working in our Social Services Department as interviewers
Helping IAM manage our files
By working in the Food Assistance Department filling food orders and stocking shelves
By helping the Clothing Assistance Department sort clothing and fill clothing orders
Keeping our grounds beautiful as landscapers and gardeners,
Serving as school supply coordinators
By helping out with special projects that require carpentry or other handy work
We also greatly need drivers who can pick up grocery store donations and other large donations.
Volunteers are the heart of IAM. Because of their compassionate gifts of time, IAM is able to help more than 14,000 people in great need in Henderson County every year. We could not provide our extensive crisis services without them.
Our Volunteer Coordinators do the scheduling and arrange for substitutes when a volunteer needs, or wants, to be away for any period of time. We have over 300 volunteers, so you will meet many wonderful people. Some of our volunteers have been here 10, 15, 20, and even 25 years so we must be doing something right!
We would love to talk to you about the volunteer opportunities at IAM and give you a personal tour of our facility. Call (828) 697-7029 to schedule a visit.

Volunteer orientation includes observing each volunteer position to learn about the tasks involved and the overall operation of IAM. Volunteers are then placed in a position based on their interests and capabilities. There is training for each volunteer position. Volunteers who work in Intake participate in additional, specialized training.
Additional training and educational opportunities are available to all volunteers.
Most volunteer shifts are four hours in either the morning or afternoon, once a week.
