Volunteers are a critical part of IAM's operations. Our volunteers can choose one or more roles within one or more departments. Here is a list of the current openings

Volunteer opportunities are available in several areas:

• Food Pantry

• Clothing Closet

• Intake

• Thrift Store

• Mobile Pantry

• Administrative and support roles

Bilingual volunteers are especially needed and welcomed throughout IAM.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, we would love to welcome you to the IAM volunteer team. Whether you have a few hours to share or are looking for an ongoing opportunity to serve, your time and talents can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors and in the community we all call home.

Most volunteer shifts are approximately 3.5 to 4 hours and take place in the morning or afternoon. Some opportunities require less time, and volunteers may serve one or multiple shifts depending on their availability. We understand that everyone's schedule is different. Our Volunteer Manager is happy to talk with you about available opportunities and help identify a schedule and role that works for you.

IAM Volunteer Descriptions

(Bilingual volunteers are needed in all departments)

Food Assistance:
Help create a welcoming and dignified pantry experience for our neighbors

Some pantry assignments may involve bending, standing, and lifting. Physical requirements vary by role.

Mobile Pantry Events
Help IAM bring food directly into communities throughout Henderson County.

Mobile Pantry opportunities are offered at various community locations throughout the month.

Clothing Assistance:
Help neighbors find clothing and household essentials for themselves and their families.

Financial Assistance:
Help IAM's Intake team provide organized, responsive assistance to neighbors experiencing a financial crisis.

Some Intake positions require computer skills.

THRIFT STORE VOLUNTEER:
IAM's Thrift Store helps support our mission while providing affordable shopping opportunities to the community.

Volunteer Hours

Volunteer opportunities are generally available during IAM's service hours:

Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday & Friday
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Thrift Store and special-event volunteer opportunities may be available outside of these hours.

Specific schedules vary by department and volunteer role.

Clothing Assistance Department

Volunteers may:

• Inspect donated clothing, shoes, and linens

• Sort items by type and size

• Prepare appropriate items for the Clothing Closet

• Organize incoming donations

• Assist staff with maintaining the sorting and storage areas

File Managers

Volunteers may:

• Assist Neighbor Receptionist in creating new files.

• Ensure Neighbor Files are Kept in Proper Order.

• Take Neighbor Files to Neighbor Receptionist and Intake Manager

• Take and Pick up Mail from Post Office

• Assist in Clerical Tasks as Necessary

• No computer skills are necessary

Food Services Volunteer

Depending on the volunteer assignment, responsibilities may include:

• Welcoming and assisting neighbors as they enter the pantry

• Helping neighbors shop and select food for their households

• Stocking shelves, refrigerators, and other pantry areas

• Receiving, weighing, sorting, and organizing food donations

• Assisting Food Services staff with pantry operations

• Helping maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming pantry

  Some pantry assignments may involve bending, standing, and lifting.

Intake Interviewers

Intake volunteers may:

•Work with clients to gather and verify information to determine eligibility for assistance.

•Provide clients with available resources to meet their needs, including information and referrals to other agencies.

•Must have strong computer skills

•Strong listening and communication skills

Training is provided (Must be able to attend 3 observations and 8 hours of computer training)

Your Time and Talents Matter

There is no single way to be an IAM volunteer. Some volunteers serve every week. Others help with special events, seasonal needs, or particular projects. Some work directly with neighbors, while others make IAM's work possible behind the scenes.

Every role contributes to our mission of neighbors helping neighbors.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us maintain our beautiful campus. We need help with planting, pruning, weeding, and all things gardening to help maintain the beautiful natural areas around our facility.
